Last day in Whitehorse - got our provisions and ready to go

Last day in Whitehorse then we are off again tomorrow. Not quite like leaving for the Chilkoot Trail, but this is our chance to get in supplies before being away from any big centres for a long while. Tomorrow we are off to Haines Junction which borders Kluane National Park. Once there, we'll get information about hiking trails. It is actually north-west of Whitehorse and we have to come back through to get to the highway taking us south but we won't stop unless necessary.
We spent the morning wandering around town - it is a cool, overcast day and very quiet in town. We drove past the finish for the Skagway-Whitehorse Road Relay - lots of people there. The race started in Skagway yesterday evening and ended up here this morning. It was a cold, rainy night for the runners who pulled the short straw. We talked to one runner in Skagway - his family has been doing the relay since the '80's. The owner of the RV park where we are staying is driving the support van for his daughters and wife who are running - just a fun part of living here, I guess.
We like Whitehorse - it is set in a beautiful river valley and all the people we've met love living here. There is lots to do in all seasons although many we spoke to agreed with us that the fall is especially beautiful and no bugs!! School started before Labour Day - the kids are out earlier in June because of the long days - too hard to get them to sleep.

  1. I wish you could post a map with your route so far, it would be really interesting.
